| TSI LAUNCHES NEWSLETTER... |
Welcome to TSI’s first newsletter!
This newsletter is the first of two new publications that TSI will be releasing. It will highlight some of our work along with news and insight into the simulation and design industries. We will also launch a Technical Bulletin to our subscribed readers that will include excellent technical resources, as well as tips and tricks for users of Altair HyperWorks and LS-Dyna.
TSI has come a long way in the last three years. We’ve grown in staff, hardware and software capability and have made strong partnerships with some of the top names in the simulation and product development fields, most notably MFAC and Altair Engineering. We’re very excited by the opportunities that we can offer our growing client base both as an engineering services source and as a software distributor.
I hope that you find these newsletters interesting and useful. Please feel free to send us your comments by email to info@thumbprintsolutions.com

Unicell QuickSider
Unicell’s QuickSider is Canada’s first 100% battery operated electric delivery vehicle. The QuickSider is a collaboration between Unicell Ltd, ArvinMeritor and Purolator Courier, and it represents the state-of-the-art in both green-thinking and courier operations.
The vehicle was designed, built and tested right here in Canada by Unicell. TSI has been privileged to be a core member of the development team for over three years with lead roles in all areas of the vehicle development including: benchmarking, vehicle packaging, design, simulation, safety, vehicle testing and program management.
The composite construction of the QuickSider was an excellent application for TSI’s optimization-based design methods. HyperWorks and the OptiStruct solver were used extensively to both develop the vehicle structure and also pre-qualify it for in-service use. CAE was used during the initial stages to drive the design direction and subsequently to optimize the structure with respect to weight, cost and performance to meet the design goals. MotionSolve models have been developed to simulate vehicle dynamics and ride performance as well as to facilitate calculation of suspension loads on the vehicle.
LS-Dyna simulations were used to evaluate and develop the fundamental crash-energy management characteristics of the vehicle as well as the basic occupant restraint systems.
Finally, our engineers were key members of the on-track and on-road test teams. From vehicle dynamics and brake testing to fault-tree analysis to on-road engineering support, TSI was able to provide full-service support to Unicell throughout the project.

Did you know that Simu-
lation and Optimization: |
|
- Can significantly reduce product weight and cost?
- Can optimize product performance?
- Can be done on almost any product or system?
- Is easy to do and very cost effective?
TSI has used simulation to achieve weight savings of over 40% on some products!
